The Lambda Nu National Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Honor Society recently awarded four of its 18 annual national scholarships to students enrolled in the Misericordia University Bachelor of Science degree program in medical imaging.
The Misericordia students honored are seniors, Molly Harris of Montoursville; Jaclyn Hajec of Utica, New York, and Brooke Butler of Moscow, and junior, Brittany Cory of Minersville. They had to submit an application and essay that addressed academic achievement, service and leadership. Lambda Nu has 184 chapters in 43 states and the District of Columbia. Students in each of the chapters were eligible to apply for the scholarships that are awarded nationally each fall.
The Misericordia University Alpha Chapter of Lambda Nu was established in 2001. Membership to the honor society is based on an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better and enrollment as a full-time medical imaging student for at least four semesters. Students must also demonstrate evidence of professional commitment beyond the minimum program requirements; the pursuit or completion of an independent research project; be active members in the Misericordia University Medical Imaging Club, and be involved in university-wide student committees and medical-imaging related activities.
The Misericordia University Medical Imaging Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. For the past 29 years, the medical imaging program has routinely experienced higher pass rates than the national average. Since October 1988, 519 graduates have taken the ARRT radiography examination and 500 have passed on their first attempt, resulting in an overall pass rate of 96.3 percent. Over the past five years, Misericordia University first-time test-takers hold a 94.6 percent pass rate. The national five-year average for the ARRT examination is 89.42 percent.
