Sonography students make presentations at regional conference

Four students enrolled in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Misericordia University made case study presentations at the Northeastern Pennsylvania Society of Ultrasound (NEPASU) Fall Education Conference at Misericordia University in October.

Misericordia University offers a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical (DMS) Sonography in a full-time format for undergraduates and in a part-time format through the Expressway Accelerated Degree program. The university also offers a certificate in DMS as well.

The hour-long session, "Learning Experiences,'' featured Misericordia DMS students presenting their recent case studies. Kaitlyn Proper of Horseheads, N.Y., offered her case study entitled, "Appendicitis''; Allison Beltz, B.S.R.T.(R), of Slatington presented, "Morton's Neuroma''; Danielle Fereck, B.S.R.T.(R) of Pittston offered, "Mobile Breast Biopsy Clips,'' and Jacqueline Reimer of Luzerne presented, "Ebstein's Anomaly.''

"Diagnostic Medical Sonography students are exposed to a variety of interesting pathologies during their clinical educational experiences,'' said Sheryl E. Goss, M.S., R.T.(R)(S), R.D.M.S., R.D.C.S., R.V.T., F.S.D.M.S., assistant professor and chair of the Department of DMS at Misericordia University. "The four students chose pathologies of interest and presented a case history, images demonstrating the role of sonography in the diagnosis of each of the pathologies, the risk factors for each, important facts for sonographers to know, and treatment options available.''
